A commentator believes the main issue between the United States and North Korea is the issue of Pyongyang’s “safety.”

“The DPRK has said that it is willing to get rid of nuclear weapons so long as the threat against them (North Koreans) no longer exists,” Jason Unruhe told Press TV on Thursday.

“The US wants the DPRK to relinquish its nuclear weapons and the other side wants the US to no longer be a threat to them,” the political commentator and analyst noted.

North Korean officials are well aware that their country is facing a threat from US imperialism and thus they have developed a countermeasure against a possible American invasion, but the US wants to get rid of North Korea’s nuclear might, he noted.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that North Korea and South Korea could one day live in peace, ahead of his planned summit with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un.
