The Afghan history and cultures historic friend Nancy Dupree, a well known American historian, died at the age of 90 in Kabul.
Nancy was admitted to a hospital due to an illness she was suffering from and died late on Saturday night.
Born in India to American parents in 1927, Madam Nancy for the first time moved to Afghanistan in the year 1962, accompanying her husband who was on a diplomatic mission to Afghanistan.
However, she later married to well known archeologist Louis but was forced to leave the country after the USSR invasion in 1979.
Madam Nancy, similar as the other Afghans, moved to Quetta city of Pakistan rather than travelling back to her home country.
She started providing humanitarian support to the Afghan refugees in Quetta and subsequently moved back to Afghanistan after the fall of the Taliban regime.
Some of her key contributions to the history of Afghanistan include preservation of the important historic documents during the Soviet invasion times.
She also contributed enormously to the history and culture of Afghanistan by establishing a research center on Afghanistan in Kabul from her personal funds.
News regarding the demise of Madam Nancy surfaced to internet earlier today as hundreds of thousands of people paid tribute to her tireless support and contribution to Afghanistan.
