The commander of the US forces for Afghanistan and the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission General John Nicholson has said the Taliban are a criminal organization as he insisted that the group cannot win on the battlefield.
Gen. Nicholson made the remarks during a press conference in Kabul today which was organized in the aftermath of the new US strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia.
He said the Taliban cannot win on the battlefield and it is time for the group to join peace process.
The commander of the US forces further added that the Afghan people want peace, emphasizing that the international community are with them in this journey.
In other parts of his speech, Gen. Nicholson said the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission will train, advise, and assist mission's efforts in Afghanistan by deploying more advisors from US and NATO to enhance training at military schools in a bid to grow the Afghan Air Force and Special Forces.
He said "Taliban have a simple choice: Stop fighting against your countrymen. Stop killing innocent civilians. Stop bringing hardship and misery."
Gen. Nicholson further added that "The Taliban are a criminal organization, more interested in profits from drugs, kidnapping, murder for hire."
The commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission also added that the announcement of the new strategy by President Donald Trump is proof of the continued commitment by the alliance to Afghanistan.
