Atta Noor Threatens Mass Rallies If Reforms Arent Applied
Atta Noor Threatens Mass Rallies If Reforms Arent Applied

Atta Mohammad Noor, the executive director of Jamiat-e-Islami party and governor of northern Balkh province, on Sunday morning delivered his Eid message at the Blue Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif and again called on the National Unity Government (NUG) to bring reforms to government institutions including security bodies.

He said if this does not happen, people will be mobilized to hold demonstrations.

"We want reforms in military and civilian institutions," said Noor.

Noor also said NUG leaders must be accountable to the people and must maintain their security.

According to him, if government does not bring reforms in these institutions, he, along with his political allies, will mobilize hundreds of thousands of people.

"We will not have a problem if the country's problems are resolved. (But if this does not happen) we have to run the strongest and most dangerous civil movements," said Noor.

"We, our people and our allies will have to organize demonstrations in Kabul to include hundreds of thousands of people," Atta added.

He also pointed out the importance of bringing reforms in military institutions and said: "We want reforms in the leadership of military and security departments. We want documented military doctrines that suit the current situation."

Meanwhile, First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum also sent a message to mark Eid, which was read out at the gathering.

"I want every one of you to keep your solidarity as before, so that the enemies remain disappointed and fail," Dostum said in his message.

He also called on religious scholars to speak out against insurgent activities and movements.

"I urge you to scandalize the inhumane acts of the homeland's enemies," he said.

Meanwhile, a number of Balkh residents who attended the Eid-al-Fitr prayer ceremony said stability and peace in the country were their greatest wish.
They also called on insurgents to lay down their arms and end the war.
