A state-owned Indian firm has commission two 220/20kV substations in Charikar district of Parwan and Doshi district of northern Baghlan province.
The company – Bharat Heavy Exlectricals Limited (Bhel) said “Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (Bhel) has commissioned two 220/20kV substations in Afghanistan. The project has been executed by Bhel on EPC basis.”
The statement further added that the substations have been commissioned at Charikar, around 60 kms from Kabul and Doshi, around 150 kms from Kabul, it said.
“Both the substations are part of the 220 kV Pul-e-Khumri – Kabul transmission system and will provide power to Charikar and Doshi sites and their neighbouring areas,” it said.
The Chief Executive Officer of the government of national unity Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Indian ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha inaugurated the substation.
India has played a significant role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan following the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 and since then has invested over $2 billion in various sectors.
This comes as the Indian cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the reconstruction and completion of Salma dam at a revised cost of INR 1,775.69 crore which is equivalent to around $268,050,296.
Built on Harirod river, the dam is expected to produce 42 megawatt of electricity and will irrigate around 75,000 hectares of agricultural land.
