The bodies of at twelve Afghan migrants were brought to Kabul from Turkey on Saturday, the officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The officials further added that the aircraft carrying the dead bodies of the migrants landed in Kabul around 11:00 am local time.
According to the MoF officials, the corpses were transferred with the help of the Afghan consulate in Turkey and by financial support of the government of Afghanistan.
At least 24 Afghan migrants were confirmed dead after a boat carrying at least 42 illegal migrants from Afghanistan drowned at the mouth of Istanbul’s Bosphorus strait on Monday.
The boat had set off earlier from Istanbul and had traveled through the Bosphorus Strait on its way to Romania, according to Turkey’s coastguard command.
The MoFA officials confirmed that that 24 Afghan migrants drowned following the incident and the majority of the victims are residents of Kabul and Herat provinces.
The identities of the remaining victims have been identified as residents of Kunduz, Baghlan, Faryab and Bamyan provinces.
