Syrian officials say Israeli military aircraft have carried out a fresh aerial assault on the airport in the countrys second largest city of Aleppo, knocking the facility out of service in the fourth such attack in two weeks.
Syrias official news agency SANA, citing an unnamed military source, reported that Israeli warplanes flying over the Mediterranean Sea struck Aleppo International Airport at around 1:25 p.m. local time (1025 GMT) on Wednesday.
The report added that the air raid damaged the runway at the airport and put it out of commission.
Aleppo airport was hit on October 12, 14, and 22, and was due to open after repairs following the last strike.
Early on Wednesday morning, eight Syrian soldiers were killed and another seven wounded in an overnight Israeli airstrike against a military infrastructure belonging to the Syrian Arab Army in the southern province of Daraa.
The Syrian military said in a statement that the Israeli assault was launched at approximately 1:45 a.m. local time (2245 GMT Tuesday) from the direction of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, targeting military installations in the countryside of Daraa.
The strike also inflicted material losses in the targeted positions.
This comes against the backdrop of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. Israel waged the devastating onslaught against Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement launched a surprise attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity.
The death toll in Gaza since the start of the Israeli aggression now stands at 6,546 Palestinians, including 2,704 children, with nearly 18,000 other individuals wounded.
Israel frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists.
The Tel Aviv regime rarely comments on its attacks on Syrian territories, which many see as a knee-jerk reaction to the Syrian governments success in confronting and decimating terrorism.
Israel has been one of the main supporters of terrorist groups that oppose the democratically-elected government of President Bashar al-Assad since the foreign-backed militancy erupted in Syria.
