Michael Cohen, Donald Trumps former attorney, says the former Republican US president will lose if he runs for reelection to the White House in 2024.
In an NBC interview on Sunday, Cohen called Trumps efforts to win political donations in claiming that he was talking about running again "to keep the grift growing and to keep the grift going."
"I talk about his sociopathy throughout Disloyal. I talk about it on my podcast, Mea Culpa, ad nauseam," Cohen said, referencing his upcoming book.
"Please understand, Chuck - and this is really important for all of the viewers as well - one of the things Donald Trump has done is grift off of the big lie that the election was stolen from him in 2020," he told NBC host Chuck Todd.
"It was not stolen from him. If he loses, which he will in 2024, what happens to the big lie? The big lie disappears. He cant now be like the boy who cried wolf. ‘Oh, they stole it from me in 2020. They now stole it from me in 2024, right?" Cohen continued. "Now, that goes out the door and there goes his money. There goes the big grift. So like I said before, its not going to happen. Hes going to run it like he did in 2011, right to the very, very last second."
Trump has been casting doubt on the outcome of his loss by insisting it was the result of fraud. He has said that the 2020 presidential election was "the greatest Election Hoax in history."
Trumps claims have significantly delegitimatized the democratic process in the United States. A recent poll has found that at least 50 percent of Republican voters surveyed believe their vote will not be counted accurately the next time they cast a ballot.
Only 41 percent of Republicans said their vote would be counted fairly, while 50 percent of them said they are not confident their vote would be counted accurately, according to the NBC News poll released earlier this month.
On Monday, Cohen told CNN, "Donald will not run."
"Why? Because first of all, he has an incredibly fragile ego. He lost by 9m votes the first time [actually a little more than 7m]. He will lose by more than 9m the second and his fragile ego cannot stand to be considered a two-time loser," he added.
Cohen pointed to Trumps political fundraising, which has brought in more than $100 million.
"This is nothing more than the worlds greatest grift," Cohen said. "Hes bringing in money greater than when he had the Trump Organization with all of its assets. So why would you give this up?"
Trump has said that only a doctors call could prevent him from participating in the 2024 presidential race.
In a recent interview with Real Americas Voice, the 75-year-old businessman suggested that only a disease could prevent him from running in the next presidential race.
Trump pointed out that only "a bad call from a doctor or something" could stop him from running.
