A QAnon supporter says he was fed a "pack of lies" to take part in the Jan. 6 protest in an attempt to change the outcome of 2020 presidential election in favor of former President Donald Trump.
Douglas Jensen, 41 of the US state of Iowa, has been accused of chasing a Capitol police officer up the stairs as Trumps supporters were trying to storm the building to stop lawmakers from certifying now-President Joe Bidens electoral allege victory.
In a court document filed by his attorney Christopher Davis, Jensen claimed that he is a "victim of numerous conspiracy theories that were being fed to him over the internet by a number of very clever people, who were uniquely equipped with slight, if any, moral or social consciousness."
He asked the judge to release him from the prison in Washington, DC.
"Six months later, languishing in a DC Jail cell, locked down most of the time, he feels deceived, recognizing that he bought into a pack of lies," according to the document.
The document also alleged that Jensen was "not an intended part of any group or mob at any time that day," and that he was "trying to show he is a true patriot."
"He was at the front of the crowd, but in no way leading anyone," the document read. "Even when threatened by Officer Goodman, armed with his baton hovering over Jensens head, Jensen simply states, ‘I will take it for my country."
The protest resulted in the death of at least five people, including a police officer who was guarding the Congress building.
Trump has been blamed for inciting his own supporters, including members of Proud Boys, to storm the US Capitol building after refusing to concede defeat at the 2020 presidential election.
QAnon followers once viewed the former president as a hero fighting against a cabal of child-sex predators.
