Former president Donald Trump has returned to the political arena, railing against his successor Joe Biden and predicting that the Republican Party will triumph in the 2022 midterm elections.
Speaking at the North Carolina Republican Convention on Saturday night, Trump blasted "radical Democrats," once again furthering his claims that the November election was rigged.
"The 2020 presidential election, that election, the 2020 presidential election, was by far the most corrupt election in the history of our country," Trump told his devotees in the city of Greenville.
Following the election, he encouraged his loyalists to "be wild" and "fight like hell...to take back our county."
Thousands of his supporters attacked the Capitol building on January 6 as the chamber was debating the counting of Electoral Colleges votes. The attack left five people dead, including a police officer.
In his Saturday speech, Trump also said that the "survival of America" hinges on GOP victories in the upcoming midterm elections.
"We are going to have a tremendous 2022 like we did frankly in 2020, more votes than any sitting president in the history of the US. We had a great election. Bad things happened, but we had a great election."
Trump also endorsed Republican Representative Ted Budd for a US Senate seat in North Carolina after his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, said she would not run.
The former presidents long-term plans are still unclear, but he has not ruled out a run for the White House in 2024.
Trump also criticized the countrys current leadership under Democratic Biden for issues facing the country from rising inflation rates and crime to increasing gas prices to cyberattacks to illegal immigration.
"As we gather tonight, our country is being destroyed before our very own eyes. Crime is exploding, police departments are being ripped apart and defunded," he said.
"Drugs are pouring in, gas prices are soaring, our industries are being pillaged by foreign cyberattacks," he said, adding, "Thats a lack of respect for our country and our leaders."
"Our border is wide open, illegal immigration is skyrocketing at a level that weve never seen before."
When Biden assumed office in January, he vowed to unwind a series harsh restrictions imposed on immigration by Trump.
The decision, however, led to an influx of refugees and migrant children from South and Central America to the southern US border in recent weeks, forcing the authorities to recognize the situation on the south border as a crisis.
Trump also went after Bidens familys connections to China, blasting the incumbent president for ending US investigation into his claim that the coronavirus originated in China.
"Sadly, the current administration is very timid and frankly corrupt when you look at all the money theyve been given as a family by China. And instead of holding China accountable, the Biden administration shut down the US governments investigation into the origins of the virus shortly after taking office. Whats going on?" Trump said.
"We must never forget that Joe Biden and his family took millions of dollars from the Chinese Communist Party, they bought him off, he flagrantly lied about it to the American voters."
Trump had blamed China for the COVID-19 pandemic and called on Beijing to be punished for its handling of the disease.
He had accused China of allowing the coronavirus to "leave China and infect the world".
