The Afghan government is expecting to organize a major international conference which will focus on Afghan government’s accountability towards the international aid committed during the Tokyo conference and to attract further aid to Afghanistan.
The major international conference is expected to be organized once the transfer of power is completed to the newly elected Afghan president.
Afghan finance minister Omar Zakhilwal said the progress achieved by Afghan government towards the Tokyo conference commitments along with Afghanistan’s economic perspective for the next international conference will be discussed with the representatives of donor countries during the summit organized in Kabul.
Zakhilwal did not disclose further information regarding the exact time and venue of the next international conference on Afghanistan; however he said the government of Afghanistan has implemented certain reforms which will ensure the donor countries to continue providing aid to Afghanistan.
The government of Afghanistan pledged to fight corruption and report the donor countries regarding the transparent expenditure of aid during the Tokyo conference in 2012.
In the meantime, Zakhilwal said the government of Afghanistan has implemented 16 out of 17 commitments made during the Tokyo conference, which is a major achievement.
He said the government of Afghanistan codified new regulations in a bid to improve the system within the government while a number of other regulations have been modified.
The international community urged the government of Afghanistan for the codification and implementation of Mining law, VAT law, Taxes administration law, law to fight money laundering and funding terrorism.
UN Special envoy in Afghanistan Jan Kubis said the implementation of the laws by Afghan government was a major achievement to ensure a long term commitment by international community to Afghanistan.
Kubis also hailed the Afghan lawmakers in upper and lower house of the parliament for the on time approval of the laws.
