الرئيس التنفيذي لـ"ساوثويست إيرلاينز" الأمريكية يقول إن السفر بات آمناً

شدّد الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة "ساوثويست إيرلاينز"، إحدى أكبر شركات الطيران الأمريكيّة، الأحد على أنّه يُمكن للناس أن يستأنفوا السّفر بأمان، مشيراً إلى أنّ الحركة الجوّية التي أصيبت بالشلل تقريباً بسبب كوفيد-19 بدأت تنتعش تدريجاً. وعندما سئل على شبكة "سي بي إس" ما إذا أصبح الطيران آمناً، أجاب غاري كيلي "إنّه كذلك. نحن نبذل قصارى جهدنا لتشجيع الناس على العودة والسّفر".

وقال كيلي، إنّ شركته تتّخذ عدداً من احتياطات السلامة، إذ سيُطلب من الركّاب وأفراد الطاقم وضع أقنعة. كما ستخضع الطائرات لعمليّات تنظيف معمّقة ما بين الرحلات الجوّية، على أن يُترَك بعض المقاعد فارغة للسماح بنوع من التباعد الاجتماعي. وتابع كيلي "لا أعتقد أنّ الخطر على متن طائرة هو أعلى درجةً من الخطر الموجود في أيّ مكان آخر"، معتبراً أنّ الأسوأ بالنسبة إلى قطاع الطيران قد تمّ تجاوزه.

وقال إنّ كلّ أسبوع مَرّ بعد الأسبوع الأول من نيسان/أبريل أصبح الوضع فيه أفضل. وأردف "لا أعتقد أن شهر حزيران/يونيو سيكون شهراً جيّداً، لكن ... نتطلّع إلى شهري تموز/يوليو وآب/أغسطس". وأقرّ مع ذلك بأنّ الأمور لا تزال في حالة تغيّر مستمرّ. وأوضح "هناك حجوزات" ولكن "قد يتمّ إلغاؤها بسهولة".

وحصلت شركة ساوثويست على 3,2 مليار دولار كمساعدة طارئة من الحكومة وتقدّمت بطلب للحصول على قرض إضافي. وتُعاني شركات الطيران بشكل خاص من الأزمة المرتبطة بكوفيد-19، وقد اضطرّت إلى تعليق غالبيّة نشاطها في إطار الجهد العالمي لوقف انتشار الفيروس.
