A group of activists took to the streets of Washington, DC, in their cars on Saturday to demand that the government support people suffering from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We are going to have these caravans around the country, around Washington, DC, and demand that the government take action to provide relief, which it can do, and that would mean, first and foremost: cancel the rents. Right now, people wont be able to pay their rent and they are going to become homeless," said Brian Becker, a coordinator from the ANSWER coalition, a civil rights group behind the protest.
The demonstration was dubbed a COVID-safe car rally, with activists largely staying in their vehicles and wearing face masks.
