India�s narcotics authority has arrested six people, three of them Afghan nationals, from Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on charges of trafficking 1.8 kg of heroin, The Times of India reported.

The report said that the drugs were contained in 220 capsules that were found in the stomachs of each Afghan.

The heroin was worth 1.8 crore Indian rupees (over $251,000).

Following an interrogation, suspected receivers of the drugs--a Nigerian and two youths from India--were arrested, The Times of India reported.

KPS Malhotra, the area director for the Delhi counter-narcotics unit, as quoted by the Times of India, said the Afghans had been identified as Niamatullah Khaksar, Gul Ahmad and Sayed Mahmood Qitali.

The men who traveled from Kabul--who were on an Ariana Airlines flight--were taken for a medical examination during which doctors found the capsules in their stomachs, the report said.

This is not the first time Afghans have been arrested on charges of attempting to smuggle drugs to India.
