US President Donald Trump boasts about how his raised tariffs on Chinese imports are hurting China, while rewarding his own country in terms of economic dividends.

“They’re getting killed with the tariffs, China’s getting totally killed,” he told Fox News in an interview recorded last week and aired on Sunday.

Trade war heated up between the two sides after a trade deal aimed at ending it evaded the last round of marathon bilateral negotiations on May 10.

Washington then increased a 10% tariff on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods to 25%, acting on an earlier threat it had issued to force an agreement.

Trump claimed that the United States would be taking in $100 billion or more after the raises.

Donald Trump’s senior economic aide says the country will suffer too as a result of the US president’s more than doubling tariffs on a monumental scale of Chinese goods.

He also claimed that the tariff raises had caused an exodus of companies in China to move production to other Asian countries, including Vietnam, thus tightening the screws on the Chinese economy.

The US administration has even ordered the initiation of a process to raise its levies on some $300 billion more Chinese imports, which equals relatively the entirety of US-headed Chinese goods.

Trump finally blamed China for requesting changes to the terms of the deal right at the time, when the two sides had carved it into a “good” accord.

The United States and China “had a very strong deal, we had a good deal, and they changed it. And I said that’s OK, we’re going to tariff their products.”

Beijing, he alleged, would, however, eventually be hammering out an agreement with Washington, but noted that he had told Chinese President Xi Jinping that China could not expect a “50-50” deal because of, what Trump called, its past trade practices.

Beijing has adopted a more decisive discourse since Trump skyrocketed the levies, signaling that any potential talks would not be resuming soon.
