The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and Talibans deputy political chief Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar separately met with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi ahead of the sixth round of peace talks between U.S. and Taliban.
"Ahead of talks in Doha today, had morning meeting with Indonesian FM Marsudi. Very much appreciate her support for the #AfghanPeaceProcess and compelling offer of assistance. #Indonesia is uniquely poised to contribute," Ambassador Khalilzad in a Twitter post.
The Taliban group also issued a statement confirming that Mullah Baradar met Ms Marsudi to discuss ways for peaceful resolution to existing issues in Afghanistan and ongoing talks between U.S. and Taliban group.
The statement further added "Moreover, those points were also identified that caused the cancellation of intra-Afghan conference in Doha."
The meetings between U.S. and Indonesian officials and Taliban representative have taken place ahead of the sixth round of peace talks between U.S. and Taliban.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid confirmed earlier today that the U.S. delegation has arrived in Doha for the sixth round of talks which will kick off today.
