Huawei to build worlds first 5G smart hotel

Chinese telecom giant Huawei signed an agreement with the InterContinental Shenzhen and the China Telecom Tuesday on building the world’s first 5G smart hotel in Shenzhen.

The 5G signal is more than faster than Internet speed. It starts with the cloud. The 5G network makes cloud service stable, powerful and able to support complicated PC programs.

"This is already a cloud PC. There’s only a screen and my phone connects with a blue tooth, a mouse and a keyboard. Then it performs like a local one. CPU is on the cloud. All the CPU, storage, graphics card are on the cloud," said Lawrence Yu, Director of the Wireless Business and Development of Huawei, when introducing 5G equipment in a hotel room.

The 5G network can be employed to do either work or entertainment. It will make more VR applications available in the future, without costing too much in hardware upgrading.

The InterContinental Shenzhen foresees the future trend of the 5G technology and tries to get an early leg up, making itself more competitive.

"We can deliver much more customized services and that’s probably the advantage of it, to add value to a stay and to an experience cycle in a hotel for the customers to have a greater stay," said Daniel Arbenz, General Manager of InterContinental Shenzhen.

The new 5G movement was in full effect Tuesday at the Huawei Global Analyst Summit in Shenzhen, where Deputy Chairman of Huawei Ken Hu said 5G is being deployed much faster than expected.

"So, in Huawei, we anticipate that by the year of 2025, there’ll be 6.5 million base stations deployed, and there will be 2.8 billion users in the world, which will cover 58 percent of the world’s population," said the deputy chairman.

Despite restrictions imposed by the United States, other countries have taken to the 5G network. Huawei isn’t even flinching. So far, the company has signed 40 5G commercial contracts and is likely to have a double-digit growth in its operator business this year.
