Some analysts and people believe that President Ashraf Ghani has not been able to deliver on his promises made during 2014 election campaigns despite having been in power for almost a full term.

Building of 500,000 houses was one of his biggest promises which critics say has not been fulfilled so far.

"Our first aim is to build 500,000 houses that our people, government employees and youths can afford to buy and pay back in 10 to 20 years," Ghani said during his 2014 election campaign.

According to Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, a small percentage of houses have been built as part of the 500,000 housing plan so far since the establishment of the national unity government in 2014.

"We may have distributed up to 10,000 houses to the people," said Nilofar Langar, spokesperson for Ministry of Urban Development and Housing.

Analysts said the big promises to the nation during the election campaign created lots of hope for the people, but the president could not keep those promises.

"All the promises that the president has made are not true; all are just lies, all his moves and his government and his administration are not based on reality but are based on lies. He made promises, but our youths drowned in water(on their way to Europe) and the Jalalabad hospital was subjected to suicide attack two to three times," said Amir Mohammad Akhundzada, former governor of Uruzgan.

Statistics by Ministry of Urban Development and Housing show that nearly two million people in the country need homes and shelters and every year 47,000 homeless people are added to this number.
