Afghan ambassador meets Pak army chief amid new political developments

The Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Omar Zakhil has met with Pakistanís Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss of mutual interest, a meeting which was organized after recent political developments in the region.

"Today, met with Pakistanís COAS Gen Bajwa for detailed discussion on host of issues including steps helpful for peace and stability for both nations," Dr. Zakhilwal said in a Twitter post.

He did not disclose further information in this regard.

The Pakistani military media wing, Inter Services Public Relations in a statement also confirmed the meeting and said "Issues of mutual interest including security situation were discussed. The gradual improvement in bilateral cooperation was also noted with satisfaction."

This comes as relations between Kabul and Islamabad have been at an all time low during the recent months, mainly due to the circumstances surrounding the fight against terrorism.

In the meantime, Washington has increased pressures on Islamabad regarding the presence of the terrorist sanctuaries which are blamed for the majority of the deadly attacks in Afghanistan, mainly carried out by the Taliban and Haqqani network.

The Afghan and US officials are saying that the leadership councils of the Taliban and Haqqani network are based in Pakistan and the two groups are having freedom of action in the country from where they plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.
